Credit Debt Negotiation

Credit Debt Negotiation Can Save You Thousands

Credit card debt negotiation, settlement, consolidate credit. Credit debt negotiation is known by many names. Some accurately describe the process, some are misused. Let's take a look at the negotiation process and see if we can sort out the fact from the fiction.

Debt negotiation is the process of working with - negotiating - with your creditors, mainly credit cards, to lower your total amount due. Keep in mind though, they want the negotiated amount in one lump sum. This is possible and very doable with good planning and some mindset changes.

Some things to bear in mind; you will be hounded by debt collectors until the balance is paid off. There are things you can do to minimize the craziness however. Also, your credit score will take a hit. Once the balance is paid off though, you can set out to repair your score, and you can usually get it back up to a respectable level pretty quickly, as opposed to filing for bankruptcy which will wreck your score for 10 years.

So how do you go forward with the credit debt negotiation process? Well there are a couple of ways.

You can hire a third party to handle things for you. A debt settlement firm will negotiate with your creditors for you, stop the phone calls, and work out a reduced payment amount. Sounds good, right? The trouble is that debt settlement companies charge very hefty fees for their services. Usually something in the neighborhood of 15% of your total debt. If you owe $50,000 you can see that this would cost you a bundle.

The other option is to do it yourself. This is not as crazy as it seems. Credit card companies and debt collectors have a series of steps they follow in the collection process. If you happen to know the process, and how you can use this information to your advantage, you can save a ton of money. If you search on line, you can find information and courses on how to do this yourself. One highly recommended course can be found Here. The best courses will be there to guide you through the process, and keep the hassle to a minimum.
